2023-2024 has been an integral year in my path to becoming a more versatile leader. Transformative leadership is a part of social work, and launching a social impact initiative has completely changed the way I view my ability to create change. The Lead Forward Fellowship has acted as a propellant for me to truly embrace socially responsible leadership. I have gained invaluable leadership experience and moments with the youth at Lafayette Mentors. SOAR has formed a unique identity in its members' hearts, and it is one of my chief accomplishments as a JMHC student. I am confident that SOAR will grow into an organization that provides meaningful programming to kids at Lafayette Mentors and beyond. One of the best parts of SOAR is the dedication of our members. For me, nothing is more important than establishing connections- both professionally and personally. Organizational structure and vision building provide a scaffolding and basis for what we do at SOAR, but it is our camaraderie that has made us a success so quickly. I want members to feel that they are doing purposeful work by volunteering their time and energy. A big priority for me this year was to create a psychologically safe space where everyone found strength in being vulnerable with each other and confident in having agency during all processes. I will be returning as a 2nd time Lead Forward Fellow for the 2024-2025 academic year. I am eager to take the lessons I have learned this year and incorporate them into a robust knowledge of how to successfully run a sustainable social impact foundation.
